So, where were we?

Ah yes, yesterday we were looking at a sickly motorcycle in the shop. Today I give you; NEW SEAT!!!!!

After a few longish rides, it was clear that BMW’s factory seats suck. As over-engineered as these motorcycles are, the seats are terrible. John rented one a couple weeks back and his was the same – painful. Everyone I’ve talked to about it agrees. So we bit the bullet and made an appointment at Rich’s Custom Seats in Kingston. We got up early Saturday and took the ferry over. A ferry that I didn’t know existed, and was 50 minutes before I had planned on going, which got us there roughly 2 hours before we needed to be. And also at a time which meant the shop was closed. So we rode out to the lighthouse and walked around a bit. The lighthouse in question; Point No Point Lighthouse –

The boys and girls were out catching salmon on a cold, damp, gray morning. Quite a relief after all the heat of last week. The windbreak on the right is quite the structure –

Marla hunted around for shells –

Another shot of Point No Point –

Anyway, we then went to the shop and had the seat redone. It took ALL day. We started at 9 and left there at 6:15. So we headed to Port Townsend for the night at a wickedly overpriced motel. We got up this AM and proceeded to ride completely around Hood Canal (of which I took a grand total of ZERO pictures).  It was a good 5 hours of riding, which gave us a chance to try out the new seat. 2 nods of agreement so far. Then it was back on the ferry and a quick float home. Turned out to be a beauty of a day –

I took this from the top deck of the ferry. Look closely and you can see Seattle’s skyline on the horizon.

Anyway, that’s where the weekend went.

Guess what we’re doing?

On the road having fun, slow internet, wrong card reader – It all adds up to only one photo I can share today. The motorcycle was feeling naked earlier today –

It’s better now. And faster/stronger/prettier! But most of all, it’s more comfortable.

More details tomorrow.

900 degrees outside,

And Felix thinks he has something stuck in his throat –

I told him to stop cleaning his brother’s earwax.

Silly cat

The heat is making people crazy

Just witness the lunacy around the corner from the house –

He must’ve been doing 32/33 mph. I’m telling you, it’s the heat. No self respecting, Subaru driving, tree-hugger would be caught exceeding the posted limit. Probably had the kids in the car too! Just crazy I tell ya.

On a serious note – You, firefighter person, you are a stud/stud-ette. It’s over a hundred degrees out, you’ve got 40 pounds worth of gear on, and you’re fighting fires in Central Washington? You’ve probably spent the entire Summer crisscrossing the Western states, putting out the hot spots. My hat’s off to you for doing what you do, and doing it well;

THANK YOU!

The rest of the world is going to call me soft for saying this

It’s hot out. Like 90 something degrees out. We don’t do 90’s in Seattle. And I don’t like it. It’s not just me either, we’ve been warned;

http://www.weather.com/weather/alerts/localalerts/98155?phenomena=EH&significance=W&areaid=WAZ508&office=KSEW&etn=0001

If it doesn’t start raining soon, we’re going to dry up and turn to dust. Just look, it’s already starting with some of the locals –

No, wait, it’s the neighbors cat rolling around in the dirt to try and keep cool. I think he’s a pretty cool cat, so good for him.

Another Chamber of Commerce kind of day

90 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, and a nice breeze. All that’s missing is the owner/operator of the chair, 1 book, and 1 Margarita –

Now that’s a good evening.

My cat Felix

I tell him the vet thinks he’s a bit pudgy. He tell’s me he has skills the vet couldn’t even comprehend. Then he does this –

Ya know, I think they’re both right.

Just stay outside,

He’s the size of a watermelon quarter, and has fangs the size of a woolly mammoth small spider. If he so much as thinks about coming inside the house, I’ll have Hopps eat him. She loves bugs. No preference, any old bug will do. Flying bug, crawling bugs, doesn’t matter. If she can chase it, and catch it, she’ll chomp ’em right down. Crane flies might be her favorite.

I hate spiders. Really. Lucky for the spider it’s a hot summer afternoon, which means the cats are all sleeping –

Hopps is so tired, from doing NOTHING all day, she doesn’t even care that Felix has his stanky boy feet on her.

And that’s our Marlin Perkins update for today.

Lazy photographer

150 miles today with Marla, and not one single photo. That’s the lazy in me. So I took this in the driveway when we got home –

Gee was claiming work, so he didn’t make the loop. I think he was just being lazier than me, which is hard to do.

It’s a good thing it’s not being used

Seeing as it’s right in front of the house –

Maybe we can get a Boy Scout to give it a new coat of paint next year? Earn himself a badge for something well done for the community.
