Woody stopped by today

She is a Pileated Woodpecker  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pileated_Woodpecker

She’s awesome to see, and a bit of a hard subject to photograph, although I did manage a few decent shots –

I have seen a couple in the neighborhood, but mostly in the wooded areas. She sat there and chipped away, and had a little feast. She was even content enough to let the humans get in their cars and drive away, with just one eye on them. Hope she and her mate make a habit of it, maybe even finding the suet in the back of the house…

Clearly the phone pole is infested and my tax dollars will be required to replace it before it falls on the house.

Life gives you lemons, make lemonade, so they say

Here in Seattle, it’s all about the rain. So, as often as it rains, there’s bound to be a rainbow every now and then. Right? Right –

It’s hard to take a photo of those rainbows. I gotta work on that. Anyway, it’s the lemonade, from today’s lemon weather.

I’ve warned you, and I’m not kidding

I was reminded not to use the flash in Barley’s face. It was a subtle reminder. Something along the lines of; ‘These are the paws, with the claws, that I will use to rip your face off if you blind me with that camera flash again’. Then he struck this pose –

Sorry about the poor lighting, but I know what’s good for me….

No work today, just relaxing

And what’s more relaxing than a walk in the park? Well I’m sure there is a ton of more relaxing stuff, but that’s what I did today, so we’re working on that premise. A couple shots  that summed up the park, and the perfect fall day we’re having –

Playing hide-n-seek with the sun today

Stay on the path!

This big boy was grabbing all the sunlight he could

Strangest drinking fountain ever

A relaxing Fall day in the park, summed up

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!

It may sound harsh, but it had to be done –

They are now safely drying in the greenhouse.

We’ll cook them later.

I think.

And the colors continue

Stronger, more vibrant –

Made me stop and look twice, that’s for sure.

More proof the rains have arrived

The grass is always greener when it’s raining –

In 6 months I’ll be sick of the rain. Right now, we’re loving it.

Forecasters speculate there might be thunderstorms tonight! They’re always fun. Might not be the best time to have the gas valve at the fireplace leaking, but what the heck…

Giving up

Some have, some haven’t, some are starting to –

They’ll all be in the same boat recycle bin before Halloween, but some aren’t going out without a fight.

Since when does the weather forecaster get it right?

Apparently, this weekend. Woke up to rain and wind, just like they said, which put paid to any thoughts of going for a ride today. Instead, it’s car bound and local.

We’re going to have a short Fall, followed by a hellacious Winter. I’ll try and document as best possible for you. First,a  few shots of the foliage changing colors. I will remind you of our state motto, ‘The Evergreen State’, so don’t expect too much. Vermont it ain’t. Without further adu –

The kiddie wading pool at Greenlake. This will go unused until June –

Pathside, was this beaut –

Lakeside, we have this –

Out on the lake, we have this –

The entire spectrum is covered in about 37 feet right here –

Full steam ahead –

And one final foliage shot. Might be my favorite –

Well, there you have it, the extent of Fall in Seattle. It sure isn’t motorcycle riding, but it’s nice nonetheless.

In Seattle…

When you go 80 some odd days without rain, you start to ache for a cloud or two –

Today, Fall truly announced it’s presence – cold-er, windy-er, grey-er. Truth be told, it’s about time. Summer, Thanks! You did a kick-ass job.
